Gears of War 2 Rank Reset Help

Q: I lost my Achievement progress and or MP Level– For some reason; I’ve lost any progress I made toward achievements/rank. What happened?
A: I’ve seen people reporting this problem. (Even after TU4) A couple of notes for everyone playing Gears of War 2:
Please do not shut down your console or launch the Dash in the middle of a game. Quit to the main menu. All save data is stored in the profile, and quitting prematurely can corrupt the Gears 2 data in the profile and therefore effectively reset it. There are several times that a game saves a significant amount of data. This happens after you cancel matchmaking (”Updating: Network settings are being updated”) and when you hit a checkpoint in the campaign “Saving: Please do not shut down your console”). But there are also several quick saves that happen in SP and MP, such as when you pick up a collectable or earn progress towards an achievement. Quitting out or shutting off the console prematurely is bad. The safest way to exit Gears of War is to quit to the main menu first. Also try to avoid playing offline because that seems to affect the rank as well. Do not take your profile to play on someone else’s Xbox that’s does not have TU3 or later.

Here’s what we know
MP level gets reset.
This is an issue where after you have upgraded to TU3 on one box, you play on another box that has not yet been upgraded and so it throws out all the new TU3 data in your profile. This one is not really fixable because it would require us going back in time and making the released version aware of the new data and not throw it away. Since we track matches played, we’re investigating ways of restoring player levels in a future title update, even if it’s not 100%, it should be better than nothing. We’re really sorry for this issue but at the time of release we had no idea we were going to change the profile data so fundamentally in future title updates.

Is there any way to restore your level? I was level 29 , played Horde locally, and now am level 1 again…

@GT The exact same thing happened to me… just finished replaying the game on Hardcore and lost all my rank AND some of the achievement data (I still have the achievements but the counters got reset). This really blows.

yeah it happend to me 2 and also whenever i walk over a weapon the press x for whatever weapon thing doesn’t come up.

I went to my friend’s house after putting my saved campaigns + my profile on a memory unit. He didn’t have xbox live, and didn’t have any TUs, but the weird thing is that it had a trueskill rank- i was on 3. I transfered my profile and saved campaigns to my hard drive after and I’m level 1. WTF??? Really annoyed since I just wanted achievement “Battle-Tested Gear” I was level 21.

yes this has happened to me twice and i never play offline i was a 54 and it got reset now im a level 60 after playin all week long on double xp week and today my rank was reset as well as my achievements whats goin on epic? can someone please restore my rank or fix this problem cause honestly im about through playing gears of war 2 for this whats the point of playing all night and working hard for nothing its hopeless and takes the fun out of gaming

After playing for days and hours I was able to get to rank 15 only to go back down to 1 after all the hard work. Honestly, i wont touch the game again or but from them.

I know the counter is reset for Party like it’s 1999, but are you technically around the same number according to the xbox? There are plenty of games that don’t have counters, but you get achievements none-the-less. I am wondering if the counter is just a convenience but not a necessity for the achievements.

man i got reset from rank 72 to 1
so 1- fuck you epic so much till you never know what hit you
2- don’t you force ppl to play what you want them to play ok i don’t want others voting for what i game type i want 2 play

If it happens when your offline dont sign into live.
or than that you can make a diff profile and copy your mean data over to it as a back up…. but even that dont work after TU4 >.< i have lost my rank over 2-3 times last time i was 56 and i really dont think i will play gears again now its a joke and epic should have made a better system where your ranks an online thing like halo or any other game. Really really poor epic
what you need to do is delete your profile and download it from live again. your gears rank will be what ever the last one it was when you where on live

I hate public games in gears of war 2, so I spent 2 weeks playing horde with my friends. I got to a level 32 and stopped playing for about a month. Just spent 12 bucks on the new maps just to get my rank reset back to 1. I’m not going to lie, really pissed off right now on account of the fact that I’ve spent well over 150$ on gears of war 2 and its maps, just to lose all the hard work I put into it. If there’s no way to get my rank restored than you can bet I’ll never buy another game epic puts out again…

I was at rank 57 with 30k seriously kills and it reset everything. That was a lot of Horde and Multiplayer to get that. I’m a bit furious, but I suppose sh!t happens. I just wish they’d fix it.

I recovered my gamer tag over a friends house and played online with him slipt screen when I got home and recovered my gamer tag back on my xbox my rank was at 1… I was rank 56, put in alot of fcukin hours to get there. All my achievement counters are reset so even though it says I still have the ones I got its still re-counting, and for the ones i almost had like seriously 2.0 it\’s back at 0. My war journal is deleted. Unlocked characters arent playable anymore wtf. Put in to much effort for epic to just ruin it. We pay good money for your game and map packs. Epic needs to do something about this. Fcukin Pissed me off. Gears of war used to be fun but to many problems. If youre gonna do something, do it the right way. Epic needs to stop putting a half a$$ job into there work. They dont really care about the customer now do they? Wasting our time…

My 40 rank got reset to 1, seems like deleting the game install to the hard-drive then reinstalling it erased my rank, kind of make me feel like not playing it, at least for the time being, disappointed to say the least.

I think I let a “Do you want to update” menu sit too long and that reset my Exp, but that was it. My seriously 2.0 is still intact. All 100,000 kills…

yea i had the same issue yesterday i just got my 46 and when i turned my xbox on the next day to play some more i did not even have a number and all achievement counters were reset as well. like all that ranking up wasted but luckily imma addict enough to do it again!!!

I was rank 61, got reset to 1, All because i had a problem loading the disc, so I phoned xboxlive support, spoke to one of their agents about my problem loading the disc, He told me to clear the system cache. Wich I did, Wish I never had listened to that agent, I have sent emails regarding this to xboxlive/microsoft. All they say is thatGamers are getting their rank reset ,because of cheating. What aload of crap.

My achievements were all reset and my rank went from 59 back to 1. I won\\\’t go into detail about the time and money I spent on this game. I\\\’m sure we all have similar stories.
We might be just a small percentage to them who don\\\’t affect their profit margin. However, I\\\’ve noticed more and more complaints about the same problems. Epic really needs to fix the bugs instead of milking us to buy more maps. My friends and I will not spend more money on any of their products until they make a good one.

Look, I was rank 34 and got into a wingman game where al the sudden it jumped to 56. i was confused but continued playing. then, the next day (today) i joined yet another one that had everyones points at 2million+ and then, when the match was over. i was reset to level 1. whats going on epic?

Im right there with everyone here I was a 56 cheat free and I get reset back to 1, my battle tested 50 achievement is still unlocked and I’m a 1. Epic I love you.

so ive just had my rank reset i was lvl 52 i have gotten the 5th update that was supposed to fix this problem but since ive got this update ive seen nothing but all the same problems….is cliffys coke problem gettin out of control that why u cant fix shit

I got reset too. DO NOT PLAY OFFLINE. I was a level 46 with close to 90,000 kills. All my achievement counters were reset and my rank set back to 1. I got to say epic-you guys better find a way to fix this shit or your going to lose a lot of costomers when gow3 comes out.

I was a level 29…came back to play this game that i slaved over to level up and now im back at one. I really did like this game but this is BS. TIme and effort erased, gone, bye bye so…so am I. Well untill part 3

yea im the kind that wins only when playing with good friends or once a while by my self and i was a level 33 and my internet was shut down dor 3 months and one day i went to a friends house and we were going to play gears 2 and i noticed my rank was a 1. i thought the rank would get back to normal after a first game in a while but nothing happen so i just stoped playing gears ever sence
it used to be my favorit game cuz it came out on my birth day but im done with gow2 till i can get my rank back

Some of you are complaining for NO reason, “oh no you were rank 15 and went down to a rank 1″, how long did it take you to get there in the first place?, and hour maybe 2 if your just shit.
I was frickin rank 64, and thats not even all that high compared to some people, rank 15 is nothing.

EPIC SORT IT OUT. I JUST DONE A UPDATED GEARS 2 WHILST LOADING IT UP ON MY XBOX AND WENT STRAIGHT 2 MULTIPLAYER THEN GUESS WHAT IM RANK 1 AGAIN WTF!! idk if it was a hacker that hacked my system or what but i didnt do anything wrong i didnt restart a campaign or play offline and mine got reset from a 41 rank and me and my girlfriend play together at the same time i dont play unless she plays with me and her rank is normal nothing happened to her rank DOES ANYONE KNOW WHY?

WTF EPIC
I decided to play gears for the first time for about 2 months only to find i needed an update so i updated my xbox went to multiplayer and my rank went from 49 to 1 not f%c@in impressed my mate did the same thing and his rank remained at 52 i’ve played gears for over 7 complete days thats over 180 hours of gaming time to get where i was and now i have to spend the nxt two years trying to get it all back like everyone else in this thread i’ve bought every map pack and played the game ligit and this bull crap happens epic sort it out we play games like gears for the love of the kill but rank is a way of showing others how good you are and to be reset makes you look like a noob
bottom line is this is not acceptable and yuo need to fix this problem like yesterday
