During Epic Games’ Gears of War Panel at Comic-Con 2009 the director, Len Wiseman, and writer, Chris Morgan, of the upcoming film adaptation shared some details with fans about potential casting selections for the movie. According to IGN, amongst the prospects to play Maria (the wife Dominic Santiago) Len Wiseman said he was interested in British actress Kate Beckinsale.

IGN Movies chatted up director Len Wiseman at Comic-Con, bringing forth some tantalizing new details about the upcoming Gears of War movie…

Despite what some may want to suggest, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is not being considered for Gears of War. “A Doom connection would not be smart for us,” Wiseman said bluntly. He spent a few minutes explaining his philosophy on finding a good action star and in the process slagged The Rock. Wiseman stated that the way to find the right person to play the lead role of Marcus Fenix is not to “throw a bunch of strongmen into the ring and see who comes out victorious… I’m looking for an actor for the role and then [I'll] put him into shape.” He added, “I’m always thinking who could play the best Marcus. You want to get hooked into the character [first] and then all the amazing spectacle.”

Kotaku recently got hold of a draft copy of the screenplay for the upcoming Gears of War movie. The screenplay appears to cover events leading up to the first Gears game, including the Pendulum Wars and Emergence Day.

Chris Morgan recently wrapped up his script for the Gears of War movie, and it’s right around now that the folks behind the production of the film need to start thinking about a cast, with Marcus Fenix obviously being the most important character. Actors such as Sean Penn, Mickey Rourke, and Bruce Willis would do well in the role,or even Chuck Norris according to people on forums around the net. Morgan actually likes Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, he told MTV.

Morgan applauds The Rock’s depth, saying he can “play the tough guy, but he can also play the nuanced, sensitive funny sad moments as well.” He would need that depth, too, because if there’s anything that must make it into the film, it’s the game’s deep, emotional storyline and characters.
